Meet Merrily Sparling
What is your craft of choice? I’m a quilter and knitter; I embroider and have made rugs occasionally.
How long have you been doing this? I started knitting about 60+ years ago. (The shawl I’m wearing is from a yarn kit from StitchCraft.)
Quilting began after visiting a quilt shop in Maine about 2006 and saw a beautiful block of the month quilt. I was hooked.
I also love to participate in Ryan’s Cases for Smiles. No matter what part of the process I do, I feel like I’m contributing to helping kids get thru a rough time.
I also make bears for hospice families thru Vitas in southeastern Florida. Occasionally they are made from clothes of a loved one.
Currently I’m in charge of organizing a Friendship Quilt for one of my Maine quilting sisters.
What is your favorite notion? My newest favorite notion is “The Knit Kit” which includes a tape measure, a cable needle, a crochet hook, a thread cutter, folding scissors, stitch markers, darning needle, Row Counter, point protectors, and needle gauge! All in one very portable neat case!

Merrily is a genius with all of the sewing, quilting, and knitting she does. I spent the last four months near her in Florida. She is so generous and is involved with so many groups doing good to help others. I’ve even brought her two unfinished quilts to fix and she added them to the mix. Many family and friends have received beautiful quilts she has made especially for them. What a lady!!!!
